Who makes this, and how I pay for it

Who

I'm Ory Frazier. I build and maintain Medaling with Friends on my own, and I use it to keep track of my own races. There's no company behind it, no investors, and nobody being paid to work on it.

Elsewhere: oryfrazier.com — mindset coaching for endurance athletes. Same people, different problem.

That's worth knowing for a practical reason: it sets what you can expect. Things get fixed when I have time, and the fastest way to get something looked at is to tell me directly.

What it costs to run

I pay for these out of pocket. None of them is a large number on its own; together they add up every month whether anyone signs up or not.

  • HostingRuns the site and the scheduled jobs that refresh race data.
  • DatabaseHolds the race catalog, your schedule, and your connections.
  • GeocodingTurns a race's town into a point on a map, so distance filters work.
  • EmailWeekly digests, day-of reminders, and invitations.
  • Domainmedalingwithfriends.com.

Chipping in

Entirely optional, and it buys you nothing — no badge, no extra features, no different treatment. It covers the bills above, and it tells me this is worth continuing.

Donate on Ko-fi

One-off or monthly, your choice. You don't need an account here to do it.

Where things stand

Runner accounts are free today, and a paid tier for clubs and organisations is the likeliest way this eventually pays for itself. Nothing about that is decided yet, and I'll say so plainly here when it is.
